Nantahala River Rafting

With four rivers surrounding this cabin you're sure to find one suited for you.

The OCOOE River is one of the ten best whitewater rivers in the country by Canoe Magazine.   This only has fully guided tours due to the challenging waters.

The TUCKASEGEE has Class I and II rapids so it is safe for kids of all ages ( over 4)

The NANTAHALA Is by far the most popular and most traveled, luring more than 200,000 paddlers to its waters every year.

The CHEOAH is a controlled-release river with a very limited number of release dates.  Check with an outfitter for  dates and times.

SHHH... this one is sort of a secret with the locals.  At the 19/28 fork if you head West in 28 in under a mile there is a small parking area to the left.   ( BEFORE you get to the bridge)  There you will find shadey area's to relax as well as two rope swings.  Make sure to wear water shoes and bring floatation devices because the water is deep.  Please see our map under Location to get a sense of how close A Cabin on Horseshoe Hill is to all of the Westeren North Carolina activities.

For something more secluded involving water fun you can head down to the Little Tenn River.  There you will find several pulls off's as well as the old Swinging Bridge. ( Yes, it is safe ) From the cabin rather turning right on Needmore, which in 2 1/2 miles you are at U.S. 19/28 fork, if you turn left you can be here in minutes.  If you continue to follow the Little Tenn the road turns to gravel for a short time,  hence how is got it's name, but the views are worth it.  If you follow Needmore Rd for 9.2 miles you will be in Franklin. There you will find several gem mines as well a Free Mineral Museum.  There are numerous brochures in the cabin for you to choose your mining experience.         ( Rose Creek in my favorite because you can dig your own or get               "salted" )
